The housing itself is structurally solid with no major cracks.

Product Description
Up for sale is a vintage JVC PC-Y555 Portable Component Stereo Boombox. This late-80s/early-90s icon features detachable left and right speaker cabinets, an integrated 5-band graphic equalizer, and JVC’s powerful Hyper-Bass Sound system.
This unit is being offered strictly AS-IS for parts, repair, or restoration. It is a fantastic candidate for a winter project, an electronics hobbyist, or a collector who loves bringing classic "ghetto blasters" back to life.
Detailed Component & Project Notes:
The Good: The AM/FM radio tuner and the 5-band equalizer work flawlessly. The amplifier section is nice and strong. Tape Deck B plays cassette tapes at the correct speed with clear audio.
The Project: Both tape decks will need internal mechanical attention (likely new belts or gear lubrication), as the Fast-Forward and Rewind functions click off immediately on both sides. Tape Deck A also has distorted audio playback.
Cleaning & Antenna: The boombox has spent years in storage and is quite dusty; it will need to be taken apart and detailed by the buyer. The telescoping antenna is intact but has a sharp crease at the base along with a general cosmetic bend further up.
Note: Please review all photos and functional notes carefully. This item is sold entirely as-is for restoration purposes. It will be heavily padded and securely boxed to ensure safe transit to your workbench.
